Organizations with slightly more complex sites might still be struggling with how to best transition from the old way of entering content into their WordPress website – we call that the Classic Editor now – and the new way of entering content – the Block Editor. The Block Editor became the default editor screen in WordPress in early December when WordPress 5.0 was released.
Enter the Classic Editor Plugin
A sudden and substantial change in the editor right during holiday shopping and donating wasn’t a great idea for some organizations. For those, we updated but installed the Classic Editor plugin and left the default settings on. Those organizations saw no changes to their content creating and editing experiences.
But the Block Editor is Better
However, that isn’t a permanent solution. Why not? Because, really, the Block Editor is better. And while it’s true I love the new, shiny techie things, that is not why the Block Editor is better. It is easier to create great looking pages for your site. Easier is best.
Most people who have used them both have told me they prefer the Block Editor. New users seem to learn the Block Editor well enough to use it far faster than people picked up the Classic Editor.
Ok, so if easier is best, that means an easy transition is best. Absolutely. And the Classic Editor plugin has a setting we can change to allow both editors to be available. Our choice! We can use one editor for some Pages and Posts and the other for the rest.
This video will show you how to set up the plugin to allow that and how to access the two different editors for each Post or Page.
Happy Editing!
