If you want to update your QuickBooks manually, you can. When you first install QuickBooks, you should do this before you do anything else. While most people choose to set their QB to update automatically, some of us with satellite internet connections have to control our bandwidth and choose to do manual installs of updates. And, of course, some of us are just control freaks and do not like anything running without our explicit permission.
It is not hard.
First, to run the updater, go to the Help menu > Update QuickBooks.
Then you get this window and have to click Update Now:
That takes you to this, where you click Get Updates. I know, it’s redundant; you actually tell it to update THREE times before it actually starts. Go figure.
The big trick is to make sure you do this over and over until it can’t find any more updates. It will NOT get them all the first time. It might take 10 repeats – or more if you are updating a new install of an older version of QuickBooks. Eventually you will click Get Updates and it will try but not be able to find any. Then you are done!
